Starting Out
Okay, the idea seemed simple enough: Lots of curves, earthen house, lots of curves and circular features. Each had one domineering feature, though: the round door - so that is where we are going to start.
Applied a PBR texture to the door and then painstakingly unwrapped each section of door perimeter and applied and position the texture around the door. Created a mask using the texture with a gold-like metal material and the underlying door material. Also unwrapped each door plank and took different samples of the wood texture so it was less mechanical.

Moved the camera around to get a cool angle of the door so far. Everything is looking good. I really like the metal wear detail I got out of the PBR material behind the doorknob. It's the little things...
I'm almost done with the door for now, but I'm really not feeling the displacements for the door trim and door lock details. |
Door Complete!
Did two more layers of epi-centric arrays with the door cap accent. This is a pretty fair resemblance of the reference door. I think this is what we are going to go with for the finished product for now. Final renderings below!
