My friend Jerome has inspired me to get back into graphics work. Upon bringing up some historic memories, I just wanted to take a moment to share some of my first renderings from ever whence. I dug these up tonight simply to gawk at my appalling beginnings. ;)
Delphi's Shrine
I couldn't quite remember what the project was, but I began working on this years ago. It may have been for a 3DLuvr.com contest at the time, but I remember being excited about it. This was never completed for reasons that I am sure were out of my control. Would be cool to try again!

These were a couple of my first ever animations. I used imaginary companies that I came up with my head -- dream never came to fruition. Obviously, judging the quality of these I can see why. (lulz)
Sorry I couldn't stream theme here, Weebly wants money for that. You can download the files, however! They are teeney-tiny.

Classwork
These were renderings that I was able to salvage from my 3D animation class from high school (2001). There were some other renderings and some animations, but the data seems to be corrupt. I cannot extract them from the disc that they are on or play them directly.
Bob the blue snail.
My friend started a 3D enthusiasts website years ago. I met him on IRC on a channel called #3dsmax. His first thing on the site was a contest to create a creature. I invented Bob -- the blue snail. However, Bob aspired to be much more.
Danger, Will Robinson!
From what I recall, this was another contest entry for 3D Luvr. Something about a weapon.
Illumination
Here is my lamp. I was staying with my Mom one summer, and I found myself quite bored. I wanted to focus on my 3D skills, so I looked at the lamp in my room and decided I wanted to get detailed and practice with some 3D Studio procedurals.
This image revolutionized my thought process when dealing with 3D and moved on to be my company logo and backdrop in many sequences.

Floating Castle
I dunno. I think it was a contest entry. The model and texture was so terrible I decided to play with volumetric lighting to hide everything while still making it look pretty.
Punkin' Head
This was, of course, for a Halloween competition at 3D Luvr. Use of lighting shadows, volumetric lighting,an unusual amount of boolean operators, and 3D Studio procedural maps.
Jeweled Ring
This was another 3D Luvr contest where we had to design our own unique jewelry. I did not have a Global Illumination renderer, so I faked it the best that I could with various omni lights. I used focal depth, and procedural maps alone to generate cloth effects with bump and specular mapping.
Staged
I am not sure what this is, but it makes me laugh a bit. I am sure that I was proud of it when I did it. :)
Advanced Life
This was the logo I generated for the electronics-testing e-zine I (never) started. It was received well by manufacturers, but when they started asking me questions that I had no idea how to answer, I knew that it was probably not a good idea to begin.
ABox Graphics
Finally, my four polygon pride and joy. This was received very well by my social peers and my first attempt at low polygon modeling. (Doesn't get much lower than four, folks.) This eventually became the logo of ABox Graphics -- another failed venture of mine.
Dysko / Elite Group
I have absolutely no clue what these are. I am assuming they were generated in request from someone on IRC. However, I have no recollection of who or what for, but I found them along with the other images.
WC3 Fortress
I had a friend on IRC that requested me to create an image for the head of his webpage. There were a lot of communication issues, and ultimately, this image was never used. It was just a large set of composited images put together in Photoshop.
Melty Name
This was my first attempt at using an "ice" material and the melt modifier in 3D Studio MAX.
2D Stuff
I have no clue what these were for. I am absolutely sure some of it was requested by various people at Camelot Systems (old Blizzard MOD group), and the other stuff is just me farting around.
Caustics
I got REALLY interested in realistic glass effects for a long time. This was the result of a test I was playing with at some point. Completely fake caustic illumination. Use of high reflections and light shadow mapping.
It's a... couch?
I've got no idea. First rendering thrown together after upgrading to a new version of 3D Studio, maybe? Ugh. I'm sorry. I just had to add it, though.
Procedural Glove
This was my first excited rendering after learning about specular mapping. I couldn't find the meshsmooth version of this (much nicer). However, here it is. Enjoy!
Ink Bottle
Again, I have no idea. Glass mapping test?
Benchmark Testing
Spikey here is the scene I created after upgrading my computer to an ultra fast Pentium III! Anyone remember those? It tested different types of mapping and their render times at certain settings. Was lots of fun!
Zenith
This is Zenith. Zenith was my last project. This was my first high poly mech attempt. I wanted to pull out all of the stops and do something massive and memorable. However, life took over at some point, my computer died, and eventually the source files for Zenith were lost and forgotten. I hope to pick back up on this eventually. Fresh and renewed!
Misc. Junk
This is just some other random junk that I stumbled upon that had no value to me. They were all just sitting there on this CD. Can you believe I included these on my portfolio when I applied to a graphics company in 2002? No wonder I never got the job! However, whatever it takes to make us learn more. Here is my garbage, out in the open world for all to see.
Enjoy!
