After completing the Brickout tutorial in GameMaker: Studio I had to manually edit the code and come up with some ways to modify the game to make it work. It appears the tutorial has not been updated, and certain things in GameMaker have been changed. Also, elements it asks you to code do not appear right after completing them. (Mainly the Intro page you create to start the game.)
You will also notice, if you have done the tutorial, after the ball is destroyed the first time the ball is always aligned with your X coordinate while it moves until you get the bright idea to hit 'spacebar' again! Very cheaty. Also had to add a 'win condition' as there was none. I have decided to use this as a base platform and develop my own "paddle game." I intend on sourcing public domain sounds/music or developing my own if time permits. Need lots of levels, maybe even a level editor per se. Will need to develop a way to dynamically generate rooms in GameMaker and load user-created maps, etc. Should be fun!
